#1 Son has a '36 F-12. We have an original owners manual for an F-14. In the directions for starting, it says to spin the engine rapidly 3 or 4 revolutions with choke on & mag off, to prime the carb. Then it says to set choke to 1/4, mag to 1/4 (to prevent a kick) & governor control to 1/4 and then use quarter turns until it starts. Following these directions, it will start on the first 1/4 pull of the crank about 90% of the time, the other 10% will take 2-3 pulls. However, when its hot, its an entirely different story-you can pull on it until you are blue in the face or wait until it cools off, which ever you want to do. If you pull it when its hot, it'll start within 5'. I think it just gets tired & wants to make you feel the same way! (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
