Failed head gaskests and being hard to start are what this motor is known for. And with a little care neither of these should bother you. If I owned one and the gasket failed I would use studs to hold it down on the best head gasket I could buy. As others have reciently posted make SURE all glowplugs work and use them hard, much cheaper than a starter.
