Steve: My 656 actually did quite well on the 5x16 model 510 plow. I had 16.9x38 rear tires on 656, but no wheel weights or chloride. The 656 plowed most of the time in 2nd gear and ocasionaly 3rd. When I bought the plow I intended on using behind 1066, however I bought a 12 ton manure spreader duals for 1066. The combination of removing duals plus always wanting to plow at same time as spreading manure made me hitch 656 to the plow oneb day. My 510 plow manual described how easy it was to reduce 5 bottom plow to 4. Only one item IH omited, rusty bolts, torching ty-rod, etc. We had this backed in to shop, I said to Mike a guy who worked for me. Go and try to plow that clay hill behind the barn. If 656 will plow the clay hill then we don't need to reduce plow to 4 bottom. We never did reduce plow to 4 bottom and 656 plowed 250-300 acres every year. As far as I'm concerned plowing in 2nd gear with 5 bottoms probably almost as fast as 3rd gear with 4 bottoms. The slower plowing will also extend wear part life per acre. Yes by all means I would buy the 510 plow, get a manual for it. If you find in your soil 5 bottom is too much load reduce to 4. Having spare bottom will never hurt anything.

Up to about 1958 the dairy cows were fed hay with some turnips and after that grass silage was the main winter feed. That same year was the last in which flax was grown on the farm. Flax provided the fibre which w
