The spark in the starter contact initiated a flame which grew up the side of the tractor. I grabbed my fire extinguisher and quickly started extinguishing the fire, from the bottom, and broke the sediment bowl when the propellant hit it. The ensuing gas and hot metal were too much for the extinguisher and I did not have a hose long enough to reach. I was able to roll the tractor away from the wooden barn before the tires caught on fire. I finally got enough hose strung together to put out the back tires but the tractor and model 100 wobble head belly mower were severly damaged and never repaired.
