The reason I suggest not using multi grade is: a multi grade oil is actually the oil thickness of the lower numbers with enhansers added which make it act with the properties of the higher rating. 10w40 is actually 10w with enhansers that give it the property of 40w for example. In some tests it is shown that in hot conditions you don't actually get the same protection you would with a heavier straight weight oil. In cold weather or when running only under light loading the multi grade is probably the best, but for heavy loading in hot summertime I would still recommend a single grade 30 weight.
