Farmall M Cutting Out ....

Hello. I have a M that sometimes runs fine, sometimes cuts out when under a load, and sometimes cuts out when running in general. It won't die, but sputters badly. I thought of vacuum leak,dirty carb/gas tank, points are adjusted fine, good spark plugs and electrical, valve sticking even, but no... Could a loose fan belt throw my timing off and be causing it?
