Robert, The 184 is the best. They are all basically the same but the 184 has the drive clutch on the engine flywheel where it belongs, a gear drive starter, alternator and an electric PTO clutch. The drive clutch on the others are on the transmission input shaft. A dumb place to put the clutch because then they had to add a brake to stop the shaft or you would grind a pound of iron every time you shift gears. The clutch release and the brake engagement adjustment requires frequent verification. The multidisc PTO clutch on the others require too much maintenance. At lease one clutch model requires removal and disassembly of the clutch to add shims for adjustment. The others have a belt drive starter/generator like the early Cub Cadets. Other than that, same engine, drive train and share same implements. They are all great little tractors but I believe the 184 will operate with less maintenance. If you are considering buying one for mowing, be aware of the fiberglass grille. Broken or missing grilles will allow the radiator to quickly plug up with grass clippings. Replacement grilles are pricy, around $300 or more. K-Mo (154 & 184)
