Hubs are alot more available than rims (alot of rims rusted out). Should be able to find a hub out of salvage for maybe a little more than its melt down value. I'm not going to say whether or not I would run it the way it is. I would have to see where the chunks are missing and where the cracks are. If they were in the right place I wouldn't be afraid to run it, but if they were in the wrong place I would lean toward replacing. If that axle would break out of the center hub, it could be dangerous in a way that it could cause a roll over or something during operation.
