Rough running A

am restoring a 1946 A distillate tractor. My problem is that it idles rough. It runs fine under a load, but idles rough. Have replaced carb. and gasket, manifold gasket, and plugs. No amount of carb adjusting seems to smooth it out. It's not extremely bad, but it doesn't seeem quite right.I have noticed that the manifold is different than that on a standard gas A. Instead of a round tube leading from the carb., it is squared off above the carb. Could this type manifold be part of the problem? I'm new at this, and any help would be great.
