Remove muffler and the top cap or jar deal (whichever you have) off the air breather. Remove the hood. Disconnect the fuel line from the sediment bowl underneath the tank. Then do as Nebraska Cowman says and remove those nuts and springs and so on. Its been awhile since I've had one off, but I think there is room to get it off without removing the steering shaft. Also remember when you put it back together, I think there is some rubber washer spacer deals inbetween the tank and where it mounts. Make sure those are put back on or it will mess up the height of the tank for the hood. Also, I think originally there was a strip of cloth or webbing or something inbetween the tank and hood.
