Of course you know you can change the clutch without splitting the tractor. But not the ring gear. And you can turn the ring gear around if it hasn't been, and most of them haven't been, at least I've never found one that had been. Although the clutches do stick with infrequent use, the usage you indicate may mean the clutch lining has broken and part of it was wedged between the flywheel and pressure plate. This is not uncommon and is often the problem when the clutch won't release all the way, so looking into it may be a good idea.
