Charging trouble- Help

I'm trying to get a W-4 running. It had no generator so I got one from Napa. I figured out the wiring to the regulator. Bat-F-Gen-A. I think all is well. I polarize and, NO CHARGE? I check the F and A off the new generator, NO VOLTAGE. There is no fuse in the light box, would this do some thing? or just run the lights? How does the switch work? Could the generator have just been defective or did I do some thing wrong? HELP!!
