IH 574, Pluses: 1) good utility trator for loader or small farm. 2)If it is Diesel, it would have the German build 239D in it. Neighbor had a Diesel one for many years and had very little problems. If it is a Diesel the injector pump can be easily adjusted to deliver 65+ HP. 3)The 239D is not a fuel hog and will last a long time with minimal maintance. 4)8 speed synco transmission gave no problems. Weaknesses: 1) after many years the hydraulic brakes may have worn seals causing air to get in the lines. 2) same problem with power steering unit that is under the dash, the seals get worn and leak hydraulic oil down over the torque tube. 3) parking brake, if it was accidently left engaged and the tractor driven the transmission/hydraulic system will be contaminated with brake lining material. 4) if it has TA and has not been replaced by now it probably will slip in low going down a hill. When the TA becomes really worn, on a steep incline, with TA in hi, with the engine turned off and transmission in gear, the tractor will roll down the incline. 5) Lucas electrical system on the ones made in the UK but I believe the ones sold in US were package in UK, shipped to US and assembled and the electrical was Delco Remy.
