I think that my 1940 M is jinxed, just recently I rebuilt the head, after putting it all back together, it was time to start her up. It started immediatly, ran for about 20 seconds, and died, needle valve was stuck. The carb was working just fine before. Got that problem fixed, went to start her again, and the starter went up in smoke, it also had been working fine before, and no, I did not run the starter too long. Since our club had a show coming up in 2 days, I made a quick trip to a friends place, and borrowed a spare starter. Got the tractor running, warmed it up good, and retorqued the head and set the valve lash. After the show, I took my starter apart to see why it wouldn't work, and found absolutely nothing wrong, so I put it back on the tractor, and it works great. I don't know, but the whole thing is just a little bit spooky. By the way, the M runs absolutely great, the club has a dyno, I put the M on it, and pulled 46 horse at 540 rpm. It made the John Deere boys just a little jealous, a G and a 620 couldn't make over 38 horse.
