Hi Allen, I assume the bar your talking about is the one right on the shaft through the fan hub. It has a wedge bolt down through one side. It may be hidden in dirt and grease (ussually are). Clean of the bar and locate the nut on the side and drive out the bolt (CAREFULLY) and the bar should be able to be pulled off. This bar is what actually drives the water pump, the fan hub is on a spindle like a truck hind wheel, the bar drives the shaft through the center which the water pump impeller is on. Running your hydraulic system without oil will damage the pump, possibly even cause the pump to seize. If the pump were to seize that would damage you timing gears, costly!
