The TA was always just an option. Our 706 dosen't have one, and the guys down the road once had a 1206 with no TA. Those are about the only two I've ever seen without the TA. The parking brake on your 656- See that rod sticking up from the right side of the operator's platform? Kick the brake pedals down and pull up on the rod. Remove your foot from the pedals, let go of the rod. The pedals should now be locked down. To release, just give the pedals a good kick, and they should come back up. I have read in IH manuals that you need to push the rod down as you kick the pedals to release on some 544/656/666/686 tractors, but our 686 released with just a kick of the pedals. You need to be careful to remember to release the pedals after parking, it's easy to forget, the tractor will still drive, and it will wear the brakes out very fast.
