Aaron Travis said it just about right on the PTO. If your steering and brakes work ok I would say the pump should be ok the TA is hydraulic on the 986. if it stops in direct as well as TA it could be main clutch, the 86"s had the hanging clutch peddles so don't know free peddle adjustment.
