Owen, I know the manual says to switch back to gas before shutting it off, but I never do my 450 that way. I just shut off the throttle and let it die. Dad ran it that way for years on the farm. I get "some" smoke when I start it, but I know that little carburator is not perfect and I figure it has to clean it's self out from running rich. If you have ever tied to find one of those you will understand why I do not fool with it. There should not be much fuel to leak down when it is setting unless the injectors are really shot. Are you sure you do not have bad valve guide seals and its oil that it burns when it starts causing the smoke? This would burn off pretty quick and run clean. Just a thought, Bill
