Years ago I made a pump from a 400 fit on my "M" by using the "M" timing cover. The 2 bottom holes lined up but the 2 top holes were wrong. I made a "U" clamp to go around the oil fill and a bit of a fancy bracket to hold the pump. I had 2 bolts in the bracket that went into the pump just to keep the bracket from moving around. These were welded and ground flat on the dist. side. Then I think I had to tap threads in the bracket for a stud to hold something towards the dist. I have a verticle Delco Remy dist on mine. I busted the timing gears eventually so went with the heavier gears but the pump and bracket has worked for 25 or more years. Nowadays I would go with a timing cover and gears from a 400 or so but I could not find one when I did mine.
