The serial number on the block will be similar to the serial number of the tractor, but it is not always the exact same. I have read that no attempt was made to keep them the same at the factory. Also, it's possible the block has been swaped (unlikly). I don't want to sound nit-picky, this is just info. I've found out researching mine. If you can't find the serial number, the front end will indicate an A or B as already posted, look for date codes on major castings for the year model, something like 12-3-W. This would be Dec. 3, 1951. The letter is the year; A=1931 -Z=1954. V is not used, and U & W are both 1951. Good Luck
