More times than not the gear is gone from improper shifting. most of the folks that run the farmalls try to shift on the go with out much luck. it is indeed possible, but you have to know what speed you are travleing and what the throtle level on the next gear would be in order to get teh gears to mesh. also if you have the belly pump ingaged that helps alot. 5th gear is a very common gear to have probelms with because most times whem pulling a load with an H the H does not have the power to make hills so fourth is used than on the go shifted back to 5th which will grind every time.
