David: Not only would it "not hurt", but it's probably necessary. Most gaskets take a compressive set after a few hours (24 or so)and often need to be retorqued to bring them back to the proper compression level. This is especially true of head gaskets, which see a higher level of thermal cycling than most gaskets. I'd retorque, run it a while, and then do a final torque check. If you've still got problems, then pull the head and go from there.
