5288 is a lot more tractor than a 1586, much more complex power train, more versatile hydraulic system, not that I ever really fell in love with their overall design. IH went back to using external hydraulic lines instead of internal passages, so you have a myraid of hoses, pipes etc, synchronized transmission gears, full planetery final drive,(1586 used drop gear fron diff to a planetery) PFC hydraulics , fwd air flow through radiator etc.
