Thanks, Stan and K.B. Maybe someone cut a decent hole for the thru-the-hood-exhaust, then found that it was off by an inch and tore it back to fit the pipe. The broken out section was repaired using a flat plate and four long bolts held by two metal strips under the casting. Then the exhaust pipe was welded over a hole in the plate. It's amazing the way some people make poor repairs.
