Gerald; I beleive there are two different model cultivator setups that were hand lift for the "A"s. On the '44 "A" that I have, I have two levers as well, and like you described, one raises the whole gangs, the other rasied only the left side. The rear gangs on my lift connect to the front rockshaft via a arm and rais up and down with the lever that rasies both arms up in the front (the inside arm). The other arm (the outside arm) is for adjusting the height of the left side front, it does not have the range of lift that the inside arm has. This is usefull when you are on uneven ground and need to adjust the height to keep the teeth even in the ground. The other style of hand lifts for culitvating (if I am correct)has a lever on the driver's platform (on the right) to rasie and lower the rear left assembly only. I also have a lever there for lifts, but it is for the plow lift that is seperate from the cultivators and has to be off for my rear culitvator lifts. I still have the cultivator lifts (not the gangs) on the tractor if you would like some pictures. Good luck with your tractor, the "A"s are really good machines.

Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
