I have a narrow tread F-20. My Grandfather farmed with 2 1938 Farmall F-20's in central Wisconsin (Stevens Point area) from in the 40's until my uncle quit farming in 1991. One, that was my grandfathers first, was the normal 1938 F-20 with rubber with the normal 4-speed forward transmission, 4th being the road-gear. the second was a project another uncle of mine bought. Just this last 1-1/2 years did we notice there's a difference in the two, besides the transmission. They've used these for years, and just this year we noted the differece needed to trailer one from the other because of the width, and the cultivators and a fabricated after-market saw rig will only fit on the normal width F-20,not the narrow tread,....you would notice no difference, until you get a ruler out. We did always know the transmission was very different,...4th gear only being less than 5 M.P.H.
