Odd, usually it's 5th they jump out of ;-)
It could well be the shifter forks, as Chad said. If so, all you'll need to do to get at them is take off the seat and deck from the trans/rear end. If when you get in you find gear problems you'll have to drop the liftall to get the drive shaft loose.
Either way, you can replace anything from the clutch back without splitting the tractor.
