Fred, Hard to tell with the spring unless you know somebody who can test spring rates and knows the spec. On my H (which is the same as a W4, not 6, but similar anyway) I disassembled the whole Bendix gear, cleaned all the built up crud off, and lubed it -- made the whole thing slide in and out a whole lot easier. I also relubed the bearings and changed the brushes. Made the thing turn a lot faster as well. If you haven't already, might try that as it's a whole lot cheaper than biting the bullet on a new Bendix assembly. Good luck with it.
