Allan, I had the same problem on my recently purchased C. The oil was coming down from the exhaust manifold in sheets. Since I bought the tractor with the intention of rebuilding it, It didn't bother me too much but I wondered what caused it. When I removed the head, there was oil puddled on top of the every piston. By the way, the compression test was good on every cylinder. I rebuilt the head even though the guides were good. When I removed the pistons, I found the wrong compression rings (too narrow)and expanders missing under the oil rings. Hope that this helps. I'd bet you have bad rings.
