If you remove the wire between the coil and the distributor, you can do a quick and dirty test of the coil. Momentarily gounding this post while the ignition is switched on, and then removing the ground, should result in a nice deep blue spark from the high voltage post. If this works, yet you get no spark when things are connected normally, the problem will be in the points, condensor, or grounding system for the points. The high voltage is "induced" in the coil, so you will not be able to trace that path using a normal ohmmeter or whatever. You want a wiring diagram for the alternator? Has this tractor been converted? If so, there are several ways to connect an alternator. Look in the "Research & Info" section to the left of this page. It should give you something to go by - though maybe not an exact drawing.
