i bought a 49 h a couple weeks back....nice tractor but it smoked really bad (thanks for the help on my post on it) i tore it apart and went about the process of re-ringing the engine. i called my local IH dealer and they were great on price for rings, gaskets and rod bearings and they were all in stock! so, i get home and start to put the rings in and they are too big for the piston. they are for a 3 7/16 bore. so i go back and tell them about it and they get me a new set of 3 3/8 rings. but...the rings are too big width-wise! they have 3 different size rings like are on the old h's i neet 3 like compression rings at 3 3/8. so now comes the bad part. i take the wrong rings to the ih guys tell them i'm sorry and get a refund so i can order rings from t.h.e. company in mt plesant IA. my ih dealer orders the right set anyway just in case and tells me he will not have them until monday next week.the tractor is ready to go back together and i need it moved this weekend. my uncle is moving his tractor and snow is coming and i need my old chevy truck in the garage. this happens on tues. mt pleasant is 2 hr away from me. t.h.e. company sent the only set they had. they send them thru spee-dee delivery. they should have been here this wed. somehow the rings have been lost getting here. nobody at t.h.e company or spee-dee can figure out where the things are. they just vanished! the customer service for both companies has been horrible. the customer support at spee-dee is horrible they seemed to have had my package vanish into thin air. the tracking system is bad and on top of it t.h.e. company's people don't seem to care if the rings got to me or not. i'm starting to wonder if i haven't been ripped off! i don't know if anyone goes to either of them but i would stay as far away from that mickey mouse outfit as i can. so the end of the story is that my ih dealer through all of this is going to have my rings and have always given me a-1 support. i should have stuck with them in the first place. thanks to kunau's i'll be good to go monday! sorry so long-winded but my wife is tired of hearing it!

Pitfalls of Tractor Engine Rebuilds - by Chris Pratt. The first pop after you have put the machine together with your own hands is exciting and pleasing. The whole experience can be marred if one moves too fast and makes too many assumptions that they can just use "as is" some parts they should be closely scrutinizing and possibly attended to. In such cases, rework makes what could have been a fun project turn into an irritant or even a nightmare. Minor Irritants To give you an example of an minor but irritating proble
