BN brakes...interesting!

I got my brakes apart finally....what a messy job. I'll have pictures here soon, but here is one thing interesting. The left brake went pop one day, and quit working. that is what led me to take it apart. luckily, I did the right one first.

I bought two new bands before I started. It's a pretty straight forward job. I found hanging the final drives from the roof was the way to go. The deal is that after getting the right side done, I found out why the left side snapped. The housing had water in it. There are vent holes on both ends of the drive tubes, and the one close to the brakes was plugged. the tractor spent a fair amount of it's life outside, so water trickled in the ungasketed tube ending, and eventually the vent got plugged. Anyway, the water would lay in there, eventually rusting the band and the drum.

I put the used band from the right side back in there. I figure after it has run awhile, the rusted drum will get smooteher, and then I will put the new one in. So if there is a moral to this story, take a small screw driver and poke it up through those vent holes. I am sure this is the same on A's and b's, and from looking at my service manuals, many others.
