Harold & Farm-al got it right re the Cub engine & the Nebraska tests. The LoBoys which preceeded the 154 were rated exactly as their Cub cousins. However, IH's advertising for the 154 said 15 Hp. Note: the 154 & later models used the "domed" pistons instead of the flat top pistons the their Cub cousins resulting in the higher horsepower. In 1975, with the introduction of the 185 & the subsequent 184 the HP amazingly was stated to be 18 hp. I have original advertising brochures from IH which state both the above. According to old IH mechanics I have talked to the 3 hp increase from 15 to 18 was done with "smoke & mirrors" for advertising purposes by modifying the carburation & timing just slightly. Anything else & the waterpump-less engine would have overheated. To really fix the problen would have required a complete redesign of the engine & by that time IH was going slowly bust & couldn't afford it for a relativeley low volume product. Myron
