Sam: I had tank type block heaters on my 560D and 656D. My memory is a bit rusty on size but I believe 1500 watt rings a bell. They were the size of a soup can and plumbing went between block drain and a port in the head. In minus F weather all you needed was about a hour before starting. These are far more effective than the frost plug type. My 1066 came from factory with the frost plug type and had to be pluged in several hours in same type of weather. I also had one of the tank type on a 6 cylinder Deere. Another system that is quite effective if your tractor is away from a power source when starting in cold weather. I had one this way as well. Quick couplers on the block and matching couplers on heater hoses of pickup. I never used this a lot as I figured it was quite hard on pickup engine, being nicely warmed up and have the cold coolant from tractor start circulating through it's system. It was better than a no go.
