I completly rebuilt a 1951 MD. When I first got it it wouldn't start on gas so the guy pull started it on diesel. It ended up that the block was cracked so I got an engine block out of a TD-6 dozer. I put in all new bearings, ground crank, new valves in the head, new pistons, rings, cam bearings, new gaskets and seals everywhere, rebuilt the injection pump and checked injectors, carb kit, re-cored the radiator, as well as other things. All in all I would say I have around 9,000-10,000 in the tractor. That includes new tires, paint, all of the parts, fluids, a power steering unit for it, and the price that I paid for the tractor. There are parts available for these tractors. You just need to know where to look. It all depends what you are going to use it for to determine how much you put in it. You might be able to get by with less, it also depends how particular you are. I'm not exactly sure what it cost me to rebuild the engine. I would say between 1000-2000 maybe more if you need a new head and block or major compents like that. Rebuilding the injection pump cost me between 800-1000. I know I have way more in the tractor than it is worth, but to me it is our most fun tractor to drive. At the moment it is probably our most reliable too. It is a costly tractor to repair but it's fun to drive, and funny to see the look on people's faces when they see a diesel engine with a carburetor and ingnition system. My 2 cents worth.

He had over a period of months spent a fair amount of his hard earned cash on replacement parts for the old "trembler" ignition. Sadly though all his efforts seemed to be a waste of time and money as he still couldn''t get the temperamental old thing to run correctly!! If i said that this was a little frustrating for him that would be "conservative" in fact the problem had reduce
