Get a hydraulic pressure gage and plumb it into your lift line. A cheap gage is only around $15. You should be getting 800 psi if you have a good unit and it should not change much as the oil gets hot. If you are using 30 wt oil and you are not maintaining pressure, then your pump must be worn. The fact that implements hold is good and sounds like you should have a good system. If you are talking about a 3 point hitch, then just change out the cylinder for one same length, but larger diameter and that should take care of it.
