I had the same problem, you can buy a special spacer part #690798C1 at a cost of about 10.50. You will most likely need a new snap ring part # 105-22212 at a cost of about 3.35. The company I bought from was Pilot Knob Restorations 390 S. Pilot Knob Road Galena, IL 61036 815-777-0826. The new snap ring is a little different from the original but works better than the original with this spacer. You can use a General motor 180 degree thermostat now, or the new OEM . You should also can get these parts from the dealer, however most don't know how to look them up!! Good luck Tommy
