Alternator on a 300 Utility

I finally installed an alternator on my 300 U. I ended up using a newer style Delco, and it's case is almost exactly the same as the generator that I took off. A real nice fit under the hood.

Now, the internal voltage regulator was fixed as you guys described.

I got the positive wire going to the main terminal on the alternator. I also grounded the alternator as well. I was told to run a wire from the field terminal on my old voltage regulator to the positive terminal on same regulator - to serve as a bypass.

One last concern is hooking up my amp meter. Do I need to run a positve line from the amp meter back to the positive side of the old regulator?

If I am wrong on the hook ups, please let me know. Thanks for all your help.
