Buster: I have no quarrel with Bob's fine diagrams, but I do throw away the 6 volt coil and go and get a new 12 volt coil. Most of the coils on these old tractors are a bit shakey anyhow. It does away with all these add on resistors. In place of Bob's light I use a push button type starter switch that I can hit anytime to excite the alternator. Push button very important as you cant forget and leave it on.

I hope Bob will not be too offended by this, we did have some discussion on the matter and he suggested he may try it on his SM. How did it work Bob?
