I don't believe you guys should spend a lot of time on this, its obvious IH used a lot of letters having absolutly no ties to a word that could describe the attachment, configuration, etc. of the item. V is one of them, J for Rockford clutch is another, FAA for Super A yet another. The list could go on and on. Many people tried to tie the same type of thinking to numbers when 04 and 06 tractors came out. 404 being a 40 hp 4 cylinder, 504 being a 50 hp 4 cylinder, 706 being a 70 hp 6 cylinder, 806 being a 80 hp 6 cylinder, etc. Close maybe, but problem is 404 is not 40 hp and 806 is not 80 hp. More like 30 and 90 hp respectively.
