Bob: Let me spell out my train of thought and tell me how I'm doing. I'm assuming my generator and cutout relay are hooked up properly. First, my cutout relay has both the relay points and a separate resistor. I think this resistor is the field ground. Anyway, both my battery and my coil are hooked up to the BAT terminal of the cutout. To me this says if my generator is putting out enough voltage to close the points then I will get power to the battery and the coil. Conversely, if my generator is not putting out enough voltage to close the points, then my entire tractor is running strictly off the battery. I'm wondering how it prevents overcharging if the generator is always putting out enough voltage to close the points. I tested the battery with a multimeter and it always read 6.4~6.6 volts with the tractor running. Revving the engine or turning it off didn't change the measurement. Switching on the lights dropped it slightly. Thanks again, Chris
