Bill: My opinion the 504 gas was the first poor tractor IH built. Rated at 46 hp a Farmall 300 at 36 hp would work circles around them. The one I had came with a farm I bought. Previous owner had just done a complete engine rebuild at 1600 hours. He had talked with several other owners and advised me not to keep the 504 any longer than I had to. Rebuilder had told him the next rebuild would be a new block. The 504 gas was one of the first IH tractors not to have sleeves. I had planned on keeping this tractor and selling my 300, however after a day in the field the 300 stayed. Yes the 504 was easy to sell with 3 point. I did notice it spent a lot of time dealers used lot over next 15 years. It must have had close to a dozen owners. The diesels were a great tractor.
