Have you taken the plate off the bottom of the housing and looked at the clutch. If the plate has been left off critters like to hang out in there! There is also a grease zerk in there. A couple of pumps with a grease gun is all it needs. When looking at the clutch, you should be able to see if the shaft is clean and not corroded.
