With the bottom plate removed, look at the edge of the clutch disc between the flywheel and the pressure plate. have someone step on the clutch and watch the edge of the disc, you should see it come free between the flywheel and the pressure plate. the thickness of the disc should be about 5/16" and often you can see the end of grove slots from the face surface.Sometimes when the clutch is worn out they will not disengage, though usually they just slip.good luck
