Andy: I agree with Paul, have the seller change the filter, may be even the hydraulic oil should it look milky. Then see if the whine goes away. In the area you describe it coming from could be the TA. I would kind of favour a demonstration using all hydraulics and TA just to see how it all performs. Remember these tractors are 30 plus years old by now. A guy like Paul who uses and plans on keeping his takes much better care than the guy that got rid of his. With good maintenance these tractors will go a lot of years yet. Just try not to be playing catch up on someone's poor maintainence.
