The old 66 series "dog house" was removed and a nice cab for the era was installed on isomount isolators: engines were changed with more hp and less rpm's: better fuel economy: large fuel tanks: easy hyd oil check and fill points were added: Air conditioner condenser was moved to in front of the radiator: The option to add a 3rd hyd valve with simple lever controls like the 2 standard was added: Wet brakes for longer life: JUST A PLAIN BETTER TRACTOR FOR SOMEONE WHO NEEDED TO RUN ONE ALL DAY EVERY DAY. We put 6000 hours on a 1066 and 9200 on a 1086: The 1086 was a pleasure to drive and the 1066 was "just another tractor to ride on" even with the "deluxe dog house with air conditioning"! From my point of view the 66 series was the beginning of the end of IHC If IH had went from the 56 series to the 86 series IH would have had more happy customers. I remember the 73 1066 had the new robot built engines and they were made with the tolerances and were expected to use 1 to 2 quarts of oil in a hard days use. They overhauled mine with 300 hours as it used a gallon of oil per 10 hour day from day 1. The new pistons and sleeves were better and it did not use much oil at all then. That engine lasted the life of the tractor as did my 1086's. I MISS MY 1086 AND WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A BRAND NEW ONE. IF I COULD ONLY HAVE ONE TRACTOR FOR EVERYTHING ON A AVERAGE FARM IT WOULD BE A NEW 1086!!I do not want to start any wars here but the 86's were nice tractors and there are still some nice ones out there.

The Fordson F Ignition System - by Anthony West. A fellow restorer contacted me earlier this year asking for some help and advice on a model F that he was restoring. He had over a period of months spent a fair amount of his hard earned cash on replacement parts for the old "trembler" ignition. Sadly though all his efforts seemed to be a waste of time and money as he still couldn''t get the temperamental old thing to run correctly!! If i said that this was a little frustrating for him that would be "conservative" in fact the problem had reduce
