Both engines are good the 310 is heaver. They too will start hard if the valves are not in excelent shape. The 282 does have glow plugs and they must all work. Many people make the remark that at 100 degrees you need the glow plugs, that is because that is the design of the engine. It is not a direct injection engine and most per compustion engines need some heat to start. In 15 years of working on the IH tractors I only new of on 560D that would start at temps of over 80 degrees. So the 706 good tractor my brother had a D282 706 with 4/16 plow did a good job with it.
