If you can put it on the tractor the thing to do is take off the distributer cap. Hook a spark plug wire and spark plug to the top post of the coil. Ground the spark plug and with you finger open and close the points. You will see what kind of spark you are getting as well as how the points and condenser are working. You should make sure the points are set right because if the fiber block is wore they won't open for some of the cylinder positions (square cam for 4 cylinder, hex for six cylinder) and they will misfire. A dealer can apply very high voltage to your coil which will find a bad coil in a hurry.
