Are the 300 and the M "stock" in terms of conditon and horsepower? If so, a 3-14 plow is a good match for either. In most parts of the midwest, a stock M will handle a 3-14 plow easily. The 300 will also pull it, but will work a bit harder in the tough places unless you've got T/A to bail you out. Lots of the 300 row-crops have had the governor opened up to run the extra rpms that the utility models were given at the factory. If that's been done, the raw horsepower is very close to the same, and the 300 will likely move a bit faster in each gear than the M. A great many of the M species have been re-powered with oversize and high-compression sleeve/piston sets. Those tractors can often dyno at 50 hp. I've got an M like that, and it would pull a 4-14 Moline plow anywhere on our farm in 2nd, and most places in 3rd. The 300 and the M will pull very comparable loads in stock form. The gear ratios for 2nd and 3rd are closer on the M, which will give it an edge. The extra engine displacement will also let it lug a bit better.
