I just bought a 706 D with 282. I had to adjust the valves, static timing and put a few new glow plugs in. Also i had to use a 10 guage wire from the battery to the stwitch to the glow plugs, because they wouldnt all work on a smaller wire. But now it starts quite easily. I could have waited for a 706 with a 310 to come up for sale, but i got looking at the cost of parts between the two motors. Everything from the muffler to sleeve kits are about twice as expensive for the 310. Also the 282 is alot more economical to run, although not quite as powerful as a 310. But there are enough gears to make up a few horses difference. I live in ne pa and have had temps down around 9 and i havnt had any trouble getting it going in the mornings. nate

On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
